The Port of Rotterdam Authority (PoR) manages the largest port in Europe. To replace its existing silo automation, the PoR in January 2004 began working on the selection and implementation of an integrated ERP system (SAP). Working with a single system requires the implementation of a uniform method of work across the 4 maintenance departments (wet infra, dry infra, fleet and radar stations).

The Task
Following the privatization of the PoR, Mainnovation, over the period 2004 – 2007, supported the new organization with the professionalization of the entire maintenance organization (quay walls, port bottom, ships, radar stations, roads, etc).

The Approach
The PoR used the VDMXL process model to standardize and optimize work processes. The VDM analysis showed that the new processes would result in a significant improvement in efficiency. With the help of VDMXL, a uniform method of working was introduced that also served as a basis to configure the SAP EAM. With the help of VDM’s KPIs, the maintenance is now managed on the basis of economic value added.

Mainnovation’s Added Value
In part due to our involvement in the previous Infor/MP5 implementation, PoR selected Mainnovation to manage this project on the basis of its best-practice definition of EAM systems.

The VDM analysis showed that the new processes would result in a significant improvement in efficiency.
